About Us

Ruben Cantu

A south Texas native, Cantu earned BS and MS degrees in Range and Wildlife Science from Texas A&I University (now Texas A&M University-Kingsville) and has since accumulated over 30 years of experience managing natural resources.   Cantu, a Certified Wildlife Biologist, has worked with  more than 200 landowners to create management plans impacting  more than 2 million acres of low- and high-fenced properties in Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, Mississippi and in northern Mexico. With 27 years experience at the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, he understands the agency’s permit system including MLDP, TTT, DMP, and Deer Breeder Permits. Prior to joining TPWD, he worked with the Natural Resources Conservation Service as a rangeland specialist and is familiar with USDA conservation programs  such as CRP, WRP, and EQIP.  He is a past president of the Texas Chapter -The Wildlife Society,  a director and past executive board member of the Texas Wildlife Association, and a member of the Texas Section Society Range Management. He represented Texas at both US/Mexico Border Governor’s Conference, serving on the Wildlife Work Table, and Western Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies, serving on many committees. He has authored and co-authored publications on white-tailed deer, desert mule deer, bob white quail, scaled quail, water development, hunting in Texas, and private landowners’ contributions to the North American Model of Conservation, and been an invited  to speak throughout Texas and the western United States. . Awards include Outstanding Alumnus (2010) from the Dick and Mary Kleberg College of Agriculture at Texas A&M University-Kingsville and the 2012 Sam Beasom Conservation Leader Award from the Texas Wildlife Association. Greg Simons

Growing up on the banks of the Trinity River in Kaufman County, Texas, Greg Simons obtained a B.S. degree from Texas A&M University in 1987. He immediately formed, Wildlife Systems, Inc., a company that he still owns and operates today.  WSI offers commercial hunting and wildlife services on private lands, currently overseeing  hunting programs on more than 800,000 acres in Texas and New Mexico. In 2002, WSI  was selected as the Dodge Outfitter of the Year from a pool of over 450 North American hunting operations. Simons has also been involved with hunting programs in Texas, New Mexico, Colorado, Oklahoma, and Utah, as well as Canada, Africa, Mexico and New Zealand. Simons has good working knowledge but is especially experienced in developing wildlife-based opportunities into successful enterprise activities. He serves as an officer in Texas Wildlife Association, a member of the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department’s White-tailed Deer Advisory Committee, a board member for the San Angelo Chamber of Commerce, and a former board chair for San Angelo Convention and Visitors’ Bureau and many other wildlife-related committees. Simons has provided speaking engagements across the country on various hunting and wildlife-related topics, and has written many published articles for popular magazines. He is former owner and editor of the Texas Hunting Directory. He, his wife, Deborah, and daughter, Erin, live in San Angelo, while son, Tyler,  attends Texas A&M University.
